Ralun is situated at the head of the Fjord of Reloncavi, where the rivers Petrohue and Reloncavi meet the fjord. Ralun is characterized by steep mountains on all sides, long vistas of water, punctuated by the visual dynamism of tidal variations. Across from Ralun, due south, you will see the peninsula of Rollizo, which features an extinct volcano and hot springs. Beyond Rollizo looms the great Volcano Yate, a permanently snow-covered, majestic volcanic peak. At low tide, the river plains in front of MAREAS are open to your curiosity for trekking across shallow streams, moss-covered banks, baby salmon, kingfishers, sparrow hawks, and near perfect silence.
